Upstairs in the kitchen they were cooking up a huge pot of soup while rockin’ sparkly chef caps.  There was also an ice cave installation in the freezer.

Apparently Matt Levy is actually a licensed NY city tour guide.  He was giving walking around with his own crate/pedestal and giving a cheeky/snarky rundown of various histories, happenings and off-colour activities that had occcured in the various rooms of the spacious Flux Factory building.  Love the ‘stache…

Take a set of shears and hook them up to some effects pedals and an amp and you got yourself a neat little sound performance while offering a much needed service to a crowd of shaggy-haired artists and musicians.  Who says art can’t change the world?  Click here if you care to see/hear the performance.

Some still shots of my favourite piece at the Flux Factory Housebroken show.  A video of the of airplane installation is available in my prior posting.  Nearby there was a “self-help” performance going on between Mr. White and Mr. Black (my own nomenclature lifted from “Resevoir Dogs”).  Periods of silent, intense reading were interspersed with a monotonous droning song which you can see/hear here.

More goodness from Flux Factory.  Artist Ian Burns created a cotton covered conveyor belt running as backdrop for a model airplane blowing via mini fan recorded by digital video cam playing real time on adjacent monitor.  If anyone wants to put the punctuation in the right places I’m looking for a copy editor.

Flux Factory officially opened its new spot in LIC this past February with Housebroken, the Inaugural Exhibition.  Pretty much every pocket and corner of their massive warehouse, workhouse, communal residency was filled with, covered with or otherwise congested with every genre and medium of work imaginable.  Some highlights include a built out room installation that included a fountain chair and two people wearing large hat versions of those little fancy paper leggings they put on turkey legs soliciting people to send themselves a message from the past (or present, depending on how you want to think about it) to the future…  I included my note to myself.  Believe it or not, I was surprised when it came.
