69th Regiment’s Armory
27-29 August
B&AB curated the first exhibition of it’s fledgling existence at the site of the historic 1913 Armory Show (full disclosure, I am the director of B&AB and the curator of this exhibition). Since this venue hosted the controversial introduction of Modernism and Modern Art to the United States, B&AB was flattered by the prospect of organizing their first exhibition in such an esteemed and consequential venue. New York critics, and the American Art World in general, were shocked and dismayed by the European artists (including Picasso, Seurat, Cezanne, Duchamp, et al) who would eventually attain recognition as the most significant artists of their generation. Given this history, B&AB was inclined to show the work of some emerging artists who also challenge contemporary ideas and mores about what may or may not be construed as legitimate fine art by todays standards. Stay tuned for more B&AB projects in the near future.
